TEHRAN -- A candidate intending to run in the next May presidential election blasted the Interior Ministry for appointing Deputy Interior Minister Mostafa Tajzadeh as head of the Election Headquarters.
The candidate Farah Khosravi, who was recently fielded for the post by the Iran-e Farda Society, said that Tajzadeh, who belongs to the 2nd Khordad Front, will not play an impartial role in the next presidential election.
The 2nd Khordad Front, a major alliance of several political groups, was named after Khordad 2 in the Iranian calendar, or May 23, the day when President Seyed Mohammad Khatami was elected president in 1997.
The Secretary General of the Islamic Association of Engineers, Mohammadreza Bahonar, also previously raised a similar objection, saying that Tajzadeh's appointment is aimed at assuring the victory of the 2nd Khordad Front in the next presidential election.
Bahonar also pointed out that Tajzadeh is one of the influential members of the Islamic Revolution Mojahedin Organization, one of the constituent groups of the 2nd Khordad Front.
"Tajzadeh has clearly shown that his performance as deputy interior minister for political affairs is deeply influenced by extreme party politics," Bahonar further said.
